Shaws Fresh Homemade Scotch Eggs

- Description
Shaw's homemade Scotch Eggs - portable and patriotic, this all-time British classic is ideal for weekend picnics and parties. What else might grace your hamper this summer? Consisting of a large free range hard-boiled egg wrapped in our award winning sausage meat, baked in a delicious coating of bread crumbs for a great traditional taste. The London department store Fortnum & Mason claims to have invented Scotch eggs in 1738, but they may have been inspired by the Mughlai dish nargisi kofta ("Narcissus meatballs"). The earliest printed recipe appears in the 1809 edition of Maria Rundell's A New System of Domestic Cookery. Rundell, as well as other 19th-century authors, served them hot, with gravy.
